Rockabilly Tuesday #10

Each Tuesday or every other Tuesday I will make a little post on how you can incorporate rockabilly items into your everyday you and maybe one day you'll be a total rockabilly chick! I'm gonna tip about everything from make up to jewellery, from music to model, this to that etc. Hopefully it'll be a success, I don't know, but you never know before you try right?

This is the 10th Rockabilly Tuesday post, and the topic for this one will be all about the eyebrows and the eyeliner. Nice eyebrows and eyeliner are almost essential for rockabilly girls, and you will often see rockabilly or pin up model with defined eyebrows and strong eyeliner. It's nothing wrong with natural eyebrows, but for me I like to keep them in shape and I can't stand a unibrow or large bushy brows on a girl. You will also often see that eyebrows are drawn on, either because they need some extra definition (like mine) or just because some prefer to shave their real eyebrows off and draw them on instead.

I'm a big fan of the classic cat eyeliner look, and I almost feel naked without it. I pretty much wear eyeliner every day, and so I've done over the last 4-5 years. It's become a part of me, and it's a easy way to incorporate some rockabilly or vintage into your every day look. I can draw my cat eyeliner on in less than a minute, but I remember the first time I tried to get this look. It was really difficult, and I was close to giving up several times. The thing is though, practice makes perfect! Don't give up, you'll get there! It may be easier using a felt tip pen rather than a liquid liner etc, so I would recommend you to try out different types of eyeliners. Find the one who works for you and stick to it. I used a simple and cheap eyeliner from H&M's own brand for years. It comes in a little jar and it's super liquid, but I got used to it and could manage it without problems. I've now started loving Collection 2000's "Extreme 24 hour felt tip liner", a pen basically. Super easy and maybe something you should consider trying if you're new to this.

I've done a tutorial using three different eyeliners.

For the eyebrows, I've recently discovered the value of nicely shaped eyebrows. They are really the frame for your face and it's amazing to see how some nice eyebrows can change your face shape. I've spent years growing my eyebrows "perfect" and I'm almost there. Back in the days I over-plucked them and they ended up really thin and weird. Now I want them to be thicker and more defined, and since they're close to being perfect (in my eyes) I barely need to fill them in with eyebrow colour when I do my make up. I do my eyebrows myself, but if you're interested in shaping them properly I would recommend you go to see a professional. It's so easy to pluck a hair too much, and then you end up with weird eyebrows. If you get a specialist to shape them for you, it's easier to maintain them afterwards, since the shape is already there.

I found this cute eyebrow chart online. Totally Hollywood glamour! It shows different types of eyebrows from famous ladies like Marilyn Monroe, Rita Hayworth and Carmen Miranda. I like this because it shows how different eyebrows can be, but still elegant and lady-like. Audrey's thick defined eyebrows are just as awesome as Gloria's thin brows.

I've also gathered some of my favourite lovely ladies to show you the different eyebrows and eyeliners out there. I could probably post hundred more pictures, but here's some of my top ladies! Use them for inspiration or just soak in their beauty, hehe. I love all these looks, but for myself I'm more of a Kat von D/Dita/Marilyn-eyebrow kinda girl rather than a Garbo/Hayworth girl.

Greta Garbo
Thin eyebrows, very defined and "round". The eyeliner is not over the top, but the dark traced eye shadow gives her an interesting look and a fun twist to the classical cat eyeliner.

Lucille Ball
Quite similar look as Garbo, with amazing long lashes!

Dita von Teese
Maybe not her "standard" look, but I love how the eyeliner has got three flicks, not just one! Her eyebrows are also nicely shaped with a great arch. Suits her face and look very much.

Kat von D
Kat's make up is always amazing. Her eyeliner skills are just mind blowing at times! Quite Dita-ish eyebrows, again nicely shaped and suits her face.

Marilyn Monroe
How could I do this blog post without including her? Gorgeous eyebrows and eyeliner. This was her signature look, and it's adopted by so many modern day pin up/rokcabilly girls, including me!

Rita Hayworth
Thick eyebrows would not suit her. These thin delicate eyebrows suits her doll face perfectly, and I love how the eyeliner gives the lashes more definition. Her lashes give the illusion of cat eyeliner, very pretty!

That'll be it for today! I hope this post gave you some inspiration to try out some new eyeliner looks or to give your eyebrows some extra attention. Remember, practice makes perfect. Don't give up just because you've poked yourself in the eye with your eyeliner! :)

For the tattooed cats out there

Hello! Even though it's getting close to Summer... I still love my tea. And I love tattoos. So when I found these cups I just had to get them!

A few days back I posted a picture on my Twitter of one of the cups, and I got a few replies from people wanting to know where I got them. I got them from a shop here in Norway, but they are available online from other shops! They are really cool, and the design is done by a  well known Danish tattoo artist, Alexander Hasnaoui. He did the design for Pernille Vea's cup design, and they ended up winning an award for their tattoo cups.

The cups are from the brand MENU if you want to Google for them. They also come in sets of two, one is "Faith and Hope" and the other is "Love and Luck". The "Love and Luck" set are one cup with a heart with wings on it, and the other cup has got some nice shamrocks and horse shoes on it (reminds me of Ireland hehe).

Me and my Mum were out shopping and we saw the cups, and she decided to treat me by buying me a set. We even got it for half the prize, probably without the cashier lady noticing... We're still not sure if the cups were 50% off or not, but we like to pretend that we did a great deal!

This is the "Hope" cup, or the sailor cup as I call it. The cool thing is that they are in fact thermo cups, so you won't burn your hands while holding it. It may lead you to think that the drink is cold and you drink the hot tea like it was water... Remember, your drink is still hot, your hands just can't feel it!

One view: A light house, stormy weather and boats.

Another view: "HOPE" with traditional tattoo-ish letters, nautical stars and other cool tattoo related things.

Last view: A large anchor, some palm trees.. It couldn't be more awesome!

Here's the "Faith" cup. This one got just two "sides".
Lovely traditional rose, some stars and other flowers/leafs whirling around. The other side is a big heart with "FAITH" written on it plus cherry blossoms surrounding it.

Aren't they just awesome? I love them!! If you're interested in getting some of your own I would recommend you do this:

a) Go HERE.
b) Google "Alexander Hasnaoui + tattoo thermo cups"
c) Google "INK faith and love thermo cups"
or
d) Google "INK love and luck thermo cups".

By googling for yourself it's more likely you will find a page that ships to your country, and there's no point in me linking you to a Norwegian (expensive and weird language) website :)

Rockabilly Tuesday #9

Each Tuesday or every other Tuesday I will make a little post on how you can incorporate rockabilly items into your everyday you and maybe one day you'll be a total rockabilly chick! I'm gonna tip about everything from make up to jewellery, from music to model, this to that etc. Hopefully it'll be a success, I don't know, but you never know before you try right?

Today's topic is Summer hair flowers!

During the Summer, most rockabilly girls decorate their updo's with hair clips, often colourful flowers. I must admit that I should use my hair flowers more often because they make me happy! If you're having a bad hair day or some hair style errors you want to hide, a flower is the perfect solution. It will also boost the Summer mood!

As a educated florist (didn't know that did you?) I love flowers. I've grown up with my Dad's love for flowers and now I'm just like him. I love the Spring and Summer time when you see all sorts of flowers popping up from everywhere, and why not bring those pretty tiny ones into your hairstyle?

Today I'm gonna share with you some of my favourite suppliers of hair flowers. A hair clip with a flower stuck on it is not hard to find and all the mainstream shops like H&M, Primark, TopShop etc have them every year. The quality is not that good if I can be honest, and I've had many hair clips and the flower has fallen off after a few days. Not good! That's why I'm doing this blog post today. I've got nothing but good things to say about these people and their hair flowers are just amazing.

I'm gonna share with you three of my favourite online shops and if you're interested in their site, the names are linked directly to the websites.

So what are we waiting for?

Favourite no. 1 - Belle Blossoms

Probably the Queen of awesome hair flowers. I wish I could buy every single one of these hair clips, because they are just amazing. The quality is great and they look very natural and real. They range from small to large blossoms, and in various colours. What I love about Belle Blossoms is their BOM - Blossom of the Month club. Basically, you sign up for the BOM and you'll receive a mystery flower once a month. A new flower each month!! For more info about Blossom of the Month click here.

They do not only do natural looking flowers, they also do some great rockabilly flowers like this. Definitely one of my all time favourites! It's also available in red, pink, ivory and brown, so it won't be hard to find the one that'll suit your hair colour the best :)

Favourite no. 2 - GG's Pin-Up Couture

The lovely girl behind GG's sent me some stuff a few weeks ago, and I was actually wearing my tropical hair clip today, which looks like this.

What I love about GG's is that the flowers are real looking but many of them have a fun twist to them, f.ex a spider or a butterfly on the hair flower itself. Again, nothing but good experiences from GG's and she's a nice lady as well!

My favourite (right after my tropical clip) must be this. A lovely orchid with a cute bright coloured hummingbird. Perfect for the Summer!

Favourite no. 3 - Pinup Girl Clothing

I've never ordered anything from Pinup Girl Clothing, but they have so many awesome items on their website. Everything from dresses to swimwear to hair accessories.

They do a nice range of hair flowers, from roses to orchids to the more Hawaiian like flowers like hibiscus. I love hibiscus flowers and I've always dreamed of being that Hawaiian girl with a large hibiscus behind my ear. May sound idyllic...but I tried once and the hibiscus just got ruined hehe.

So, here's my favourite from Pinup Girl Clothing... yeah, you guessed right. The hibiscus hair clip modelled by the lovely Masuimi Max

That's it for my favourite online shops today, but a simple Google search for "rockabilly hair flowers" will do the trick as well. There's plenty out there and so many different flowers to choose from. If you're in the lazy mood today, I've googled for you so just click here

Remember: If you're interested in the previous Rockabilly Tuesday posts, you can find a choice in the menu bar that will take you to a overview page of all Rockabilly Tuesday posts! Easy peasy!

Would you like to win a gift card worth $250?

Hello people!

I have some fun news to share with you guys! I know that many of my fellow vintage/rockabilly friends are fans of the show Mad Men, and I recently got an email tipping me about a Mad Men related contest...

SparkRebel, a beauty and fashion site, emailed me about this contest and I thought it would be something for you gals out there! The idea is that you create a look on their page that shows your ultimate vintage style, and then you can win a gift card worth $250 you can use on vintage frocks from Unique Vintage.

The picture below shows the details about the competition, but you might also wanna give this a little read before entering, just some info about the rules etc. It's a great competition if you ask me! You can also click the picture and it'll send you straight to SparkRebel's page where you create your look :)

The competition ends on May 25th at midnight.

Grab the chance and enter, you never know, maybe you'll be the lucky one :) I might enter myself, although I'm not one of the biggest Mad Men fans... (I know..). I started watching the show but for some reason I stopped again, and I never got around to start watching it again!

Anyways... Good luck with the contest, and watch this space for my upcoming modelling job! (Desperately waiting for a sunny day...)

Flashback Friday

Hello, and happy Friday!

So, I was looking around my albums on my laptop and found some old pictures of me. I get a lot of questions about my real hair color, and I think this little blog post will answer your questions for a while...

Maybe we should start at the very beginning?

Here's me at the age of.... God knows with my Greek looking Dad. As you can see, I'm actually a blonde!

The boyband look

Obviously this is a joke, but the photo is just brilliant. Me and my best friend, we were probably 15 (?) at this point and we were trying out our boyband look. Her facial expression is as brilliant as my boy looking face.

The dark eyes era

As many of the rockabilly girls out there, I started off as a punk-ish kid. I'm 18 years old in this photo. My hair is a bit darker than my real hair color, but it's probably the most natural looking hair I've ever had.

Bleached blonde becoming rockabilly

Then I went ahead and bleached my hair. This is also where I started my rockabilly journey, as you can see the eyeliner is right there!

I made some victory rolls with the long hair on top. Both sides are under cuts!

Even shorter hair

The shortest hair I've had, I think. And not really nice when I look at it now. Probably 19 in this photo.

The before-red hair days

Here I am just a few months before I dyed my hair red. I'm with my American mate Ben at the Cumann Chluian Árd in Belfast, attending Irish (Gaelic) language class. Goodness me I've changed since then as well, and it's only 1,5 years ago!

And the current me....

Well well, I think we got it covered! Everyone can be a rockabilly girl :)

I wish you all a great weekend!

Life the way it should be

Hello people!

I haven't done a personal blog post in a while, and I thought it was about time I did one now.. just in case you were wondering how my life is at the moment, hehe.

I've had a few rough days, I've been quite ill and had no idea what was wrong with me. It all started after me and my fiancé got back from a concert, and I started feeling sick. We had one of my best friends and her boyfriend joining us to the concert, and she got sick as well. So we assume something happened to us during that weekend, bad food or some bug of some sort. We had the same symptoms and all that jazz, but finally after about a week of living on the couch feeling horrible I'm better. If you're wondering what concert we went to.... here's a hint:
Yup, we saw Scooter. He still looks exactly the same as he did back in the 90's. Impressive.

I haven't been eating properly and my energy was so low, but today I managed to go for my 30 minute walk without any problems and I can happily announce that I'm well again! Which is good, I've got a tough week ahead with plenty of work + I'm trying to wrap up two written exams before I can start revising for my oral exam in the middle of June.

I'm in a good place at the moment. I'm close to getting my driver's license and my dear car is just sitting at home waiting for me to be allowed to drive it (I feel like I'm 18 all over again)! It's getting close to Summer, I've got a new modelling job coming up and yeah, it's all good. I'm not revealing any details about the modelling job just yet, but I think some of you might know already! Exciting!

What else.. I'm really looking forward to the Summer holiday, time to relax and enjoy the fact that I've completed my education and I've become a teacher. I'm gonna do some travelling as well (no details yet!) and I'm gonna spend some time with great friends. Over the last year I've discovered the value of true friends, and Tiril (the girl from my pin up/rockabilly make over) has become one of those really good friends. We have so much fun hanging out together, and we've both went through some lame stuff lately which have caused us to just become even better friends.

I'm not gonna go through the stupid story once again, but I can honestly say I'm so much better off without fake friends in my life. I think that's important for everyone, and do you really need people in your life who drag you down? Do you need "friends" who lie and make up ridiculous stories to test your friendship, and "friends" who are too damn important on their high horses to actually realize how silly they are? Nah, I don't think so. I thought adult behavior was to face your problems and sort it out, not run away like some 6 year old boy who's been stealing sweets from a candy shop. I'm pretty sure there's many of you out there who's got "friends" like this, and my tip would be to get the hell away from them as soon as possible. They're not worth it, I promise! And when they're out of your life, you can laugh at their childish behavior... I do! I should probably write something funny to them because I'm pretty sure they're stalking me somehow, but I can't be arsed.

Haha enough of that silly stuff! What else.... Me and my fiancé are staying in this flat for another year, and I'm doing one more year in uni before I start working. That's pretty much it! It's all good here, and life couldn't be any better at the moment. I've also kept up with my daily walking routine and I've lost some inches here and there, so I can't really complain!

Here's a silly photo of us taken in Portrush, Northern Ireland. We were on our 5 months anniversary trip and it seems so long ago... it's proving that we're both two silly heads AND that my skin is not as perfect as you people might think ;) I'm only human!

I want to thank you guys for popping by my blog and leaving me nice comments, and also on my Twitter/YouTube. I really appreciate it, and I love hearing back from you, so don't be afraid to leave a hello if you're here :)

Rockabilly Tuesday #8

Hello!

Each Tuesday or every other Tuesday I will make a little post on how to can incorporate rockabilly items into your everyday you and maybe one day you'll be a total rockabilly chick! I'm gonna tip about everything from make up to jewellery, from music to models, this to that etc.

It's May 1st and we're getting close to the Summer. The weather has been lovely over the last few days, and hopefully that'll continue throughout the Summer!

Today's topic is rockabilly swimwear. I hate swimwear and I hate showing off my body in any beach-related situation. I hope that will change though, since I've decided to join the gym over the Summer. What I do know, is that when I get the courage to actually go to the beach, I will certainly not buy one of those mainstream bikinis where your goodies are on parade, if you get what I mean. What I love about vintage inspired swimwear is that they are made to fit curvy ladies, not skinny coat hangers. They will hide any body issue you might have, and they just have a nice design to them, f. ex the lower cut will hide any wobbly thigh problems going on and it'll nicely fit your bum :)

It is so many awesome vintage inspired swimsuits and bikinis out there, and today I'm gonna share my favorites with you guys and also let you know where you can get awesome swimwear!

Let's start this, but first: I do not own any of these photos but they are taken from the websites I've linked to in this post.

Favorite nr . 1: Cherry high waisted bikini from ModCloth

First of all, I love how it fits a bigger size lady. It looks amazing, and I like how the bottom is high waisted and not too tight fitting, it's easy to hide any wobbly bits. It's also so well fitting you can't see her head! Just kidding, she didn't have a head in the first place, I haven't been that mean and chopped it off!
There's tons of lovely bikinis and suits on ModCloth's web site, but this is my favorite!

Favorite nr. 2: One piece sarong in Hawaiian print from Vintage Suits by Mary
Again, another favorite. You can get this Hawaiian swimsuit in other colors as well, but I chose this as my favorite since I think it would be awesome with red hair, hehe.

Favorite nr. 3: Pink Marilyn inspired swimsuit from PinUp Girl Clothing
I remember this one from back when I was new into the rockabilly scene. I mean, look how it makes your body look? Perfect for curvy ladies, and it's super feminine and cute. Again, there's plenty of awesome swimwear from PinUp Girl Clothing, worth a check!

Favorite nr. 4: Swimsuit in black mesh, also from PinUp Clothing.
It doesn't always have to be over the top with polka dots and cherries, or wild prints. A simple black swimsuit will also do the trick. What I love about this one is that it's not super tight fitting, so it would hide any bumps you might have going on...

Favorite nr. 5, 6 and 7: Polka dots and gingham from Retro Swimwear

Just because polka dots and gingham are awesome, and very rockabilly!

Favorite nr. 8: Formalwear onepiece from ModCloth

I mean, why not? The little bow is also too cute, and I'm pretty sure you'll get some looks if you wore this to the beach!

These are just a few of my favorites for the Summer. I really wish I had the body and courage to wear swimsuits, but on the other hand, I find most local "beaches" gross and filthy, and the water is not warm at all. So I only go to the beach when I'm in Cyprus, and only there!

If you want to buy vintage/rockabilly swimwear online, it's very easy. You can either use my links from this post as a start, or you can simply Google "rockabilly swimwear" or something like that and hundreds of online shops will pop up. Most of them have size charts etc so it should be easy to find your size. Good luck!
