Rockabilly Tuesday

Each Tuesday or every other Tuesday I will make a little post on how you can incorporate rockabilly items into your everyday you and maybe one day you'll be a total rockabilly chick! I'm gonna tip about everything from make up to jewellery, from music to model, this to that etc. Hopefully it'll be a success, I don't know, but you never know before you try right?

Today's topic is;

Rockabilly music!

I know there's plenty of rockabilly artists out there, but these are my favorites! Some of them might not be considered as "rockabilly", and some are old, others fairly new. I still like them!

I'm just gonna put in loads of YouTube clips here today, and you can listen to them. Maybe you'll find something new?

#1 Mystery Gang - Gang up! (Love this song, and the video!!)

#2 Reverend Horton Heat - Wiggle Stick. More psychobilly than rockabilly perhaps, but still, they're brilliant.

#3 Brian Setzer - Americano. Probably the first rockabilly band I discovered, and that thanks to my brother!

#4 The Sabrejets - Wild for kicks. Discovered these fellas in Belfast. They're from there, and I quite like them. The vocalist is totally cool by the way.

#5 Imelda May - Big bad handsome man. Newer to the rockabilly scene, but I love her!

#6 The Polecats - Make a circuit with me. Not sure why I like these.. I just do!

#7 Kitty, Daisy and Lewis - Going up the country. Love their version of this song, also love the fact that they're siblings and rocking the rockabilly style together!

#8 Stray Cats - Rockabilly rules. Mr Setzer's band, great song.

#9 Robert Gordon - Rockabilly Boogie. Oldie, but goldie!

#10 The Lucky Bullets - Saturday night. Norwegian rockabilly band, tried out for the Eurovision Song Contest in 2011, unfortunately the Norwegians didn't appreciate them enough to let them represent us in the great finale! (boo)

#11 Wanda Jackson, the Queen of Rockabilly - Let's have a party. Couldn't really make this blog post without including her, could I?

These are just some of my favorite rockabilly bands/artists. There's way more to pick from, but I decided to pick out the ultimate favorites for this post. What I want YOU to do, is to leave me a comment below telling me about your favorite rockabilly band! I'm always on the hunt for new bands/artists, so please share! :)

Rockin' Leopard

If you thought my blog had turned into a baking blog only... fear not! I'm still rockabilly as always, and today I'm showing you my latest buy!

I got a gift card from my brother and his wife for Christmas, and called in to the shop to check if they had the bag I wanted.. They didn't have it in the shop, but I could order it online. Fair enough, I went ahead and ordered it. Almost a month later, still no bag in my mail... I called back and then the guy went "oh our website doesn't work and we don't have that bag available, but we do have some other rockabilly leopard ones..." I was sold. And so was the bag.

In its full glory!

Some details

Although I'm a non-smoker.. I like her! And I love that's she's tattooed!

The brand is Liquor Brand. Check out their website, cool stuff!

And of course... my favorite part! The leopard print!

It's a quite small bag, so I won't be using it when I know I have a lot of stuff to drag around. I think it's perfect for a day shopping, since you'll have less things in your bag to carry (meaning; more room for shopping bags!!).

At the moment I only leave the house for uni or for food shopping as it's freezing cold here, and I'm also dressed like one of those guys on their way to the North or South pole. Maybe not as dressed as them, but enough to conclude that the bag won't work with my polar outfit! Therefore, I can't wait till the Spring where I can walk around with my new bag in my hand!

Cheesecake cupcakes for pretty pinups

Hello people!

I promised myself last weekend that I wouldn't bake this weekend. I failed, and made some cheesecake cupcakes!! They turned out pretty yummy, and therefore I decided to share the recipe with you guys :)

What do I need?

Turn on oven to 180 degrees and prepare your baking tray.

- 150g butter
- 200g cream cheese
-150g sugar
- 3 large eggs
- 300g flour
- 2 tablespoons of baking soda

Now! Let's start. Melt the butter and let it cool.

While the butter cools down, you take your cream cheese over into the mixing bowl.

Add the sugar and mix well.

When the cream cheese and the sugar has become good friends, you add one egg at a time and mix well. They should all get along!

It now looks like this, and I turn to my mixer to make sure I mix it well enough.

Mix mix mix mix mix!!

Add the flour and baking soda, bit by bit and keep in mixing! :)

When you've got all the flour and baking soda mixing with the butter-egg-sugar-cream cheese mix, it should look like this.

Scoop the mix into the baking tray and try to fill 2/3 of the trays. I failed and filled them a bit too much, but they came out fine!

Pop them in the oven for 12-15 min, and when they are golden on top they're done. While you wait you can always lick the bowl... *oops*

Sprinkle some powdered sugar on top, just to make sure you get diabetes at an early age (or just to make them look prettier).

Ta-da!! Yummy cheesecake cupcakes!

Enjoy!!

Guest post: How to make your own recipe box

Hello folks!

Today I'm posting my very first guest post, and it's written by my amazingly talented handy woman of a friend, Ida.

By the way, Ida. Thanks for this, and the next time we're out buying milkshakes from two different cafés (because we're too embarrassed to buy two milkshakes in a row from the same place..) I'm buying you one!

She gave me a recipe box for Christmas, and I've gotten a few comments on how you can make your own. Ida said yes to share her secret, and here it is!

How to make your own recipe box using decoupage technique

You’ll need; Decoupage varnish/glue, synthetic paint brush, a fancy napkin of your choice (you
can also use newspapers, magazines or whatever pretty thin paper you’d like) a tube of acrylic paint scissors. And snacks, apparently…?

I paint the box with the color I prefer – let it dry – then put on a second layer. I’ve left white surfaces for were I’m going to attach the napkin.

I cut the napkin approximately the size I need. A little bit bigger because it wrinkles a bit. Remove the second layer of the napkin, so that you only use the layer with print.

Apply the decoupage varnish/glue on the box, one bit at a time.

Attach the napkin to the varnish/glue. Keep doing this until the entire napkin is attached to the box – leave to dry for 15mins or so.

Now just simply apply the varnish/glue over the napkin to give it a protective varnish- leave to dry for 20mins and repeat one more time.

I went over the edges with the red paint to remove any white bits.
And, TA DAM! FINISHED!!

You can use decoupage technique on all sorts of material.

Just remember that you need a white surface so the print doesn’t disappear on a dark background. So a white acrylic paint is always good to have! Here I’ve made flowerpots out of an old tin can (here’s a good example of a surface I had to paint white before I attached the napkin).

You can use it on candles (but just on larger candles so the paper doesn't come in contact with the flame).
Furniture

Or glass/porcelain

If you start doing this you’ll end up with a huge napkin collection! It’s really addictive! All of the materials are bought in an arts & craft shop. And mine is bought at Panduro Hobby. If you live in Scandinavia you can get it in a shop near you.
But if you don’t you can order online at Panduro's home page, right here.

Have fun!
xoxo Ida

Rockabilly Tuesday #2

Each Tuesday or every other Tuesday I will make a little post on how you can incorporate rockabilly items into your everyday you and maybe one day you'll be a total rockabilly chick! I'm gonna tip about everything from make up to jewellry, from music to models, this to that
etc. Hopefully it'll be a success, I don't know, but you never know before you try right?

My first post in my Rockabilly Tuesday can you read here. I got lots of positive feedback, but one comment made me feel like I have to explain myself, which is silly really, but I'll do it anyway to make sure people won't misunderstand me.

I've created these blog posts just for fun, and it's for everyone. It's not for rockabilly lovers only in any way. I get a lot of comments like "I'm scared to change my style to rockabilly, what will people think?" etc, and I get that. It is a full on style, and you will get noticed. You don't have to change over night, and that's why I've made Rockabilly Tuesday. It's easy steps to work
rockabilly slowly into your style, whether you're aiming for the full look or just want a little change or some inspiration. I am not saying what I say is correct and genuine rockabilly, it's just things I like for myself and things that are popular in the rockabilly style.

Now what we got that cleared up...Today's rockabilly topic is;

LEOPARD PRINT!!

Man, do I love leopard print! Before I dared to be a rockabilly chick (well, showing it) I loved leopard print.. but I never dared wearing it, since I thought I was too fat or it would make me look tacky or something. And yes, I think leopard can be tacky if it's too much, but if it's done tastefully.. it's awesome. So how can I use leopard print? Remember, these are only suggestions, and they're mostly things I have, so yeah, it's not a "do this"-post. For inspirational purposes only ;)

Hair clips, hair ties, necklaces and earrings

This is a easy way to work leopard into your look without going crazy. A tiny leopard bow is a super cute accessory! It can be leopard print on its own, or with a cherry, a skull, anything. I have plenty of leopard hair accessories myself, and they just add a little dash of rockabilly to your look. As I mentioned in my Rockabilly Tuesday: Cherries, Dolly Cool (my all-time favorite!)
has both hair ties and clips with leopard print on. The very same lady also does some super cute leopard necklaces, so visit her website and snoop around!

Another great source for leopard hair bows/etc is Etsy. A simple search for "leopard print bows" gave me these results! It doesn't have to be standard leopard print colors either, it can be pink and black, green and black, blue and pink, everything is allowed! Belle Blossoms also have some cute leopard roses, I totally love the black and leopard one. And the "Julie" leopard bow, I have two of them and they are so pretty!

Leopard earrings are also cute, and they even work if you have stretched ears like myself;

Cardigans and tops

I am a cardigan addict, and of course, I have two leopard print cardis myself. I also have a few tops, and I am actually wearing one today! It's a fun way of bringing some rockabilly awesomeness into your style :)
This my very first full figure shot shown in public, be gentle!

Shoes and socks!

Now I really wish I could wear heels.. There's so many gorgeous leopard print shoes out there! Iron Fist has a lot of cool shoes, including these.. Awesome! But for us who can't wear heels, either because we're just useless at wearing them or we for some medical reason (like me) can't, you can always get some leopard flats. They can be found anywhere, and I also know t
hat Converse has a pair of leopard shoes, I already have bought them.. This link shows you a Google picture search, look at all those yummy shoes! I've also mentioned socks, I only have one pair of leopard print socks... but should definitely get more! TopShop and Dorothy Perkins, even Primark, all good sources for cool socks.

Here's a pic of my Converse.

Bags and purses

If you don't wanna wear leopard print on clothing, a bag or a purse is a good alternative. It doesn't have to be full on leopard either! I actually ordered a leopard bag for Christmas, but it was unfortunately sold out, but look at this cutie I got instead. Well, I haven't got it yet, it's on its way! It's the one on the very right, with the blue/black haired rockabilly lady. Isn't it cute?

Leopard print tattoos!

I'd love to have a leopard print tattoo, but I'm already inked up on the areas I'd like to have it. Handsome Egri Peter from Mystery Gang has a leopard sleeve going on, I totally love it!!
This is of course an extreme way to incorporate leopard to your style, but hey, if you're into tattoos, why not?
And of course..there's plenty of ways to use leopard print, why not bring it into your home? For example, look at this awesome KitchenAid... If they weren't that bloody expensive I'd a) get one and b) it should be this one!!
Gorgeous.....

I hope you've learned a few tips and tricks on how to use leopard print in your styling, and if not.. I'm sorry. Please leave me comments if you have any questions, and if you're still not happy with the way I've done it, I am sorry again! ;)

Yummy marble cake for sad days

Here's the recipe for the marble cake I made today. I've been looking forward to it all week, but this morning I woke up a text from my mother telling me that our dear neighbour at home died last night. I've been crying all day, it's so sad. Can't believe that he's gone. At least I know that's he's no longer suffering, and hopefully with his wife, wherever they are.
I still went ahead and made the cake, since keeping myself busy keeps the tears away. I hope you like it, and hopefully want to try it for yourselves!

This cake is for you, old pal.

I also wanna thank all of you sending me supportive tweets today. It's helped a lot.

What do I need?

Turn on the oven to 170 degrees.

Basic batter

- 150g butter
- 150 g sugar
- 3 eggs
- 1 dl whole milk
- 250 g flour
- 1.5 tablespoon of baking soda

Chocolate batter

(you take 1/3 of the basic batter and mix with the following ingredients to make the chocolate batter)

- 2 tablespoons cocoa powder
- 2 tablespoons sugar
- 1/2 cream

First, take some butter on paper and do like this in your tray. It'll prevent the cake from burning and it'll be easier to take out of the tray!

Then cut a strip of baking paper and put in the bottom of the tray.

Now. Mix the butter with the sugar.

Mix until it looks like this (no it's not scrambled eggs!)

Then, add one egg at a time and mix well.

It should now look like this.

Here, I forgot to take a picture of the flour... but you add the flour + baking soda bit by bit, and when it gets dry you add milk, then more flour, then milk until you have no more flour and milk left. Your batter should now look like this.

Take 1/3 of the light batter away in another mixing bowl. Then in a third bowl you mix the cocoa powder, cream and sugar and add to the 1/3 of batter you just put aside. I again forgot to take a picture of my chocolate batter, but mix until it's nice and smooth. By the way, it's allowed to taste...yummy!

After you have both batters done, you take half of the light batter and pour it into the tray, like this.

Now take your chocolate batter and pour over the light batter.

And finally the rest of the light batter over the chocolate batter! Lick the bowl ;)

Now that all the batter is in the tray, grab a fork and just pull it through the batter a few times here and there. This'll make the nice marble pattern inside the cake! And lick the fork...
*cue tummy pains*

Pop the cake into the low in the oven and leave it for 50-60 minutes. Use a spaghetti or a knitting needle (or something else) and stick into the cake when you think it's finished to make sure it's all done. When you pull the stick out of the cake,no batter should follow!

When it's done, take it out and leave it in the tray for a while to cool down. Then use a knife to loosen it from the tray and gently take it out. Let it cool, and then....

DIG IN!
