The cutest necklaces ever!

The fabulous Dolly Cool made me these super cute necklaces!

I love my Mum and Dad very much, and after I moved away from home I've realised how much I appreciate them and how much I miss them. Mum's done everything in her power to raise me and she's always made sure that me and my brother were okay before she ever thought of herself. My Dad has been the best Dad ever and he still is. He's always supported me and thanks to him I have been able to live in good flats as a student, instead of being stuck in a tiny room and sharing a bath and kitchen with 5 others. I can't wait for Christmas since I will be going home, and it will be good to spend some time with them again.

I already have a Mum and Dad tattoo, but I saw a necklace a while ago that I really wanted. The negative thing was that it was a bit too big and I knew I wouldn't be 100% satisfied with it if I bought it. And who do I turn to then it comes to rockabilly jewellry? Daah, obviously Dolly Cool!! I sent her an email and asked if she would make me some custom pieces. A little while later they arrived in the mail and as always, they were perfect! Exactly what I wanted!

So today I had a little photoshoot in the icy cold weather so I could show you guys my awesome Mum and Dad necklaces! What do you think??

They're so perfect, I love love love them!! I've already shown it to my Mum, but I'm gonna have to surprise Dad when I go home in December.

Have you seen this yet?

I've been thinking about doing this for ages!

Lately I've been getting some questions about my hair and make up, so I finally decided to make my very first video tutorial! I borrowed my boyfriend's webcam and started making the tutorial. I'm new to this and as you may know English isn't my first language, so I'm guessing you'll get a good laugh on behalf of the way I speak. Well, I guess it's my charm..

Anyway!! Here it is, and I hope you enjoy (my hair??)

Happy Winter Skin

Whether I like it or not, the Winter is coming to Norway.. Last week the first snow came and the minus degrees showed up. We're talking insane amounts of snow (yet) but it was snow and it stayed on the ground for a day or so.

I live on the Western coast of Norway and the winter is hard. The first winter I had here was -30°C and crazy amounts of snow. I remember walking to work one morning and it was painful to breathe because of the cold and the snow was covering my legs up to my knees. It's pitch black outside when I wake up and it's dark when I walk home from school/work. That's pretty much the life here from about November to March/April when the snow finally starts to melt and disappear.

Since the winter is sneaking up on me, I've decided to share some tips on how to keep your skin happy during the winter. I do this all year round though, but the winter can be harsh on your skin! I am no professional, I'm just doing what works for me and maybe some of my tips can be helpful for you as well? :)

Here's the products I use and I've given a little description on how I use them if you keep on reading. (Press the photo to enlarge it).

Face

I've struggled for years with bad skin, but lately my face has decided to love me! I use heavy make up quite often and therefore it's very important for me to wash my face clean every night before going to bed. This is actually so important to me that I always manage to wash my face when I get home at stupid o'clock drunk, no matter how tired I am.
I remove my make up with Garnier Fresh Grape Water wipes, and then I wash my face thoroughly with Simple Refreshing Wash Gel. After the wash I moisturise with Simple Protecting Moisturising Cream and off to bed I go!

Once or twice a week I use a facial scrub from Garnier called PureA. It exfoliates and leaves my skin fresh looking and clean. I moisturise with the Simple moisturiser as mentioned above.

Other things I do for my face is to give myself a treat every now and then; a mask. I actually use the scrub for this, if you leave it on your face for about 5-10 min it dries and your skin feels amazing afterwards! I also try not to pick my face with my hands, since hands touch a billion things everyday and you don't want all those random germs and bacterias on your face. Another important thing is to drink enough water and eat healthy! Fruit and vegetables and water = happy skin.

Body

For my body I scrub once/twice a week with scrub gloves in the shower. After showers I moisturise with Boots' very own Coconut Body Butter (mmm smells lovely) while my skin is still slightly wet. I've found out that it's easier for the body butter to sink into my skin while it's still a little bit wet.. not sure if this works for everyone, but it's worth a try! I also try to pay extra attention to my elbows since I tend to forget them and they go all dry on me... ew.

Feet and hands

I am addicted to hand creams. I use Hand Therapy 2 in 1 hand & nail cream from Superdrug every time I feel the need for it, f.ex after washing dishes, washing my hands, being in touch with heavy soaps etc and my hands feel super soft!
For my feet I use a foot scrub thingy from Boots every now and then, and instead of foot creams I use a strawberry body butter from Body Shop. I put the cream on after I've scrubbed the feet and then I put on my socks. I once tried to wait for it to dry but I forgot about it, stepped on to the floor and nearly feel since my feet were all slippery and creamy! The bonus is that the feet gets their share of moisturiser and my socks smell of strawberry, hehe. I hate feet so much, so the least thing I can do for them is to make them smell yummy.

Hair

HAIR. My biggest problem. My hair is heavily dyed RED and red is not a easy color to maintain. This means I have to dye my hair quite often and this makes my hair sad and dry. So I try my very best to be nice to my hair.
I used to be addicted to washing my hair when I was blonde and I washed it like every day. That's not good, and especially when your hair is red. I would probably have to dye it every week if I kept on washing it every day. I've now reduced my hair washing to twice a week thanks to dry shampoo and bandanas.

When I wash my hair I use L'Oreal Color Protect and wash it twice. First time for removing grease and build up, and the second time for making sure it's clean. I then use a mask, either Lee Stafford's Argan Oil or Wella's Brilliance hair treatment. Both are amazing, but I switch between using them most for fun. The Argan Oil smells like a man's product (true!) but it leaves my hair silky smooth and it also adds moisture and helps moisture staying in the hair. I leave the mask in and put my hair up in a hair clip (a very stylish one with Winnie the Pooh on, bought it when I was 7!!!) and I do my regular shower routine. After a few minutes I rinse the mask out of my hair and then use a peppermint and tea tree oil conditioner, either from Alberto Balsam or Original Sources. This leaves my scalp all tingly and happy, and my hair feels fresh and clean. Now for the horrible part. Just before I leave the shower I rinse my hair one last time in cold water (as cold as I can). I believe that this is good for the hair and that the cold water will close the pores, and "lock" in the proteins and other goodies from my hair care routine. It may not work for you, but it works for me!

I try to give my hair days off from hair products, and when my hair is very greasy I just hide it in a bandana or in a hat and it can enjoy its greasiness without disgusting people around me (or me for that sake). I've noticed a big difference in my hair since I started letting my hair grease up and I think it's good for my hair to just be natural and oily now and then. If you don't know how to tie a good bandana, watch ReeRee Rockette's video HERE, it saves you from bad hair days for good!

Nails

I use nail polish pretty much all the time, and the alcohol from the nail polish remover is not good for my cuticles. The hand cream helps of course, but I also use a cuticle oil from Beauty Secrets. It's awesome, smells good and my nails haven't looked like this since... I can't even remember. I recommend it to everyone!!

Lips

The last thing I take care of must be my lips. I said I was addicted to hand cream, but I am even more addicted to lip balms.... I have one in each room so I don't have to move to another room to get one. I have one in the living room, one on my desk, one on my night table, on in the bathroom... I have one everywhere, I swear. I can't live without it! I mostly use Carmex' lip balm and Rosebud lip balm, but I also have numerous cherry/strawberry ones, and one from Vaseline called Rosy Lips. Every now and then I use a lip scrub from Body Shop (not very often!) and I moisturise my lips probably a hundred times a day when I feel the need for it. When I'm out in the icy weather I make sure to bring the Rosebud lip balm. It's amazing for cold weather and it will last you forever.

That is pretty much what I do! I didn't think it was that much to be honest... I believe that you feel better about yourself when your skin and hair is in good condition. I mentioned about healthy eating and drinking loads of water, but I also take vitamin supplements. After I started taking vitamins specially aimed for hair and nails I've seen a big difference. My hair is growing so fast (yay) and my nails are long and strong. It doesn't have to be the most expensive brands, but by giving your skin and hair a little extra attention during the Winter (and the rest of the year for that sake), I think you will benefit from it and get happier skin overall.

All my products are bought at Boots, Superdrug or Sally's for you lucky people in the UK. I don't know what to do when I run out of stuff, since we don't have those shops here in Norway. I may have to find some UK people and pay them to shop for me, hehe ;)

Golden eyes

Well well it's time for another blog post I guess!

I haven't been very active in the blog world the last week because I had a friend visiting me. We had such a great time, and that leaves little time for blogging :) She left this Monday and it's now back to normal here. Dieting, sleeping, knitting (my new obsession) and uni. I don't have anything extremely interesting to tell just now, but... I did promise you guys some pics of my new make up palette, so here we go! For some reason it looks like the photos are a bit bad when it comes to the quality, not sure if that's my fault or blogspot's fault.

I've wanted a palette for ages, but never got around to order one. I've been looking at palettes at eBay but they are often full of bright colors like blue and pink and orange etc. I never wear make up like that, so why should I get a palette with those colors in the first place. After some more eBaying (new word) I found a palette with brown/golden/beige tones and decided that I had to have it. So I linked my boyfriend on Facebook saying "I need this".

A few weeks later he ordered it! Wahoo I'm so lucky :) It doesn't have a label on it, so I can't really tell you where it's from but it came all the way from Hong Kong (from a man called Ding-Dong lol) and it's just.. awesome. I wish I had three hours every morning just to do my make up because it's so fun mixing colors and being creative with it. I think it's 120 different shades and they are quite good to be that cheap too!

I'm not very good at taking pics of my make up, but here's the first look I made using golden/yellow/beige-ish colors.

And here's my cheeky face! I've never liked bright eye shadows, and I've fallen in love with the golden toned ones. I almost feel naked without my eye shadow, and that's coming from a girl who never bothered about make up when she was young!

I'm gonna try and post more photos another time when I've played with the other colors as well, but I can't promise anything right now!

I hope that my blog readers are all well and happy, and please leave me a comment if you have anything fun to tell me :)

Fun dinner - perfect for kids (and me)

I'm still alive! Neck is still painful, but it's getting better!

I spent the entire day in bed yesterday. My hair was super greasy and my face just looked like a sick person's face. That, in addition to the oh so painful neck = you feel shit. So I decided today to get up and take a shower, something that turned out to be very hard but also good for the neck. I'm feeling way better now, and therefore I'm gonna post the fun dinner I talked about!

1. You need sausages (or grillpølser in Norwegian), spagettini's (they only need to boil for 5 min) and a knife. You do not need the Captain Morgan bottle in the picture ;)
2.Cut the sausages into pieces. You need about 6-8 sausages of you're making dinner for two.

3. Break the spagettinis in two and stick them through the sausage pieces. Warning! This takes more time than you think, so don't start 30 min before your favourite TV show, you will miss it.
4. When you think you've made enough, let them boil for 5 minutes in slightly salted water.

5. Meanwhile you can make the spaghetti sauce, and the final result will look like this.

I think it looks super fun and they're quite fun to eat as well! I'm sure this would be a hit for children (or childish adults, like me) and I'm pretty sure I'm gonna make it again! :)

Enjoy!

Hello from the bed!

I had so many plans for this day!

I was going to finish my assignment, take photos of my new make up palette, do my make up, write a blog entry about the fun dinner I made yesterday.. so many plans.

This very morning my boyfriend left for work, and I stayed in bed since I had the day off. I woke up with a tense feeling in my neck because I've slept with my head in a funny way, so I moved over and fell asleep. A bit later, I turned around and it just said SNAP! My neck!!

I couldn't move at all! I could feel my feet and stuff so I knew it wasn't too serious, but man it hurt! I called my boyfriend who was at work and cried, and he told me to call the A&E. I hate places like that and I couldn't move at all (and I only had t-shirt and knickers on!) so I wasn't really in the mood for going anywhere. I did call for the doctor and he suggested that I took some painkillers.. Well, that's easy for you to say, I can't freakin' MOVE!

Here I am hiding my suffering face, hehe

Then I heard some noise from upstairs, and I went hah-hah, the landlord can help me! I called but no one answered, so I had to call on his cell phone and he then called his daugher, who THEN had to lock herself in to my flat and find my painkillers. It's not easy! So I took some of the pills I could find (I wasn't able to look into the bag where I keep stuff like that, so I had so search around like a blind bat until I found something useful). After a little while I managed to turn over to my side and gently scoop my head off my pillow and wander in to the bathroom and living room to pick up some stuff that could entertain me.

Boyfriend came home from work with soda (yay) and promised me ice cream later on tonight. I feel so handicapped, I'm still in bed and still can't move very well. I need to hold my head up with my hand when I move around, causing a lot of problems. Ever tried opening a bottle while holding two pillows with only one hand? Hehe.. well well I'm glad my boyfriend is home and can look after me, at the moment he's making me lunch :)

That's it for today..but I do promise you a blog about my new gorgeous make up palette AND the funny dinner I made, once my neck gets better. My best friend is coming to visit me on Thursday too so I have to get better soon!

London Baby!

Hello people, new and old followers!

I've just got home from my study trip to London. I must say it felt like being in Saudi Arabia or something, both because of the extreme heat and the multicultural surroundings of Redbridge. I've been craving a nice summer holiday to somewhere exotic, and I decided to just pretend that I wasn't in England but somewhere far, far away. And bam! I got my holiday! :)

The trip itself was really cool and interesting. Although we have mosques and Hindu temples in Norway, I've never seen one before and they're not close to my university. I've learned so much and I've changed my view towards Muslims and other religions. Many people thinks about terrorism and Al Qaida when they hear the word "Muslim", but I believe that we should all visit a mosque and talk to the Muslims. They were all very open to us and talked happily about the Qur'an, their way of praying, terrorism and the view on female Muslims. It was very interesting to see a mosque from the inside and also talk to a Muslim about their religion. We were supposed to meet with a imam, but his wife got sick and he had to rush her to hospital. The other man we talked to wasn't a imam, but he could also resite the Qur'an and showed us how they pray.
Ilford Mosque

After the talk, we were invited for lunch in the mosque. The food was soooo good, but spicy! I nearly died (well.. almost) but they were prepared for us Norwegians and our sensitive mouths and served us milk. That helped a lot and I could continue on with my day without the feeling of glowing LAVA in my throath.

The same day we went to a supplementary class for young Muslims who study the Qur'an. I was very impressed with the young girls reading Arabic fluently and resiting the Qur'an. They were all sitting in a room on the floor reading chapters of the Qur'an, and resiting for the teacher. My legs were practically dead after 5 mins of sitting on them, but they young girls spend 2 hrs every evening doing this. I must guess they are used to their legs slowly dying during Qur'an school. I could barely walk afterwards!

We were very privileged to get the opportunity to see the Qur'an classes. Most non-Muslims are not invited into this, and thanks to our fabulous trip leader we got that opportunity. He's well known around the Redbridge area and has many friends within the different religions you find there. So for me it was a great experience and I'm very grateful that they let us in.

Okay, enough about the Muslim part of my trip. We also visited the Sri Murugan Hindu temple and I must say.. WOW!! It was amazing!!

Sri Murugan Hindu temple

The smell of insense and burning oils hit me when I entered the temple. The beautiful shrines, all the colours.. amazing. I walked around with my cupcake socks (very appropriate socks, I didn't think about the fact that we have to take our shoes off) and looked at the shrines and the Hindus praying. I was also very fascinated with their lovely saris, they look so elegant and colourful. After the visit we all got a bag of fruit from the maharaj (priest), called prashad. The Hindus believe that if they sacrifice food to their Gods, the Gods will give food back. The prashad is simply fruit collected from the shrines and it's given back to the people. Nice! I was very happy with my Hindu banana and orange, and felt quite special! :)

Me in my hijab with the Muslim man Ghazanfer Ali, Somegra Butt (head teacher at the Muslim primary school), my Hindu banana and orange, me with our trip leaders Lynn and Bill Gent, my Henna tattooed hand.

Other than the religious part, we have visited a British school and a Muslim primary school. Both interesting experiences which I really enjoyed!

I've also done some shopping... or course. Not a lot though, the heat and the crazy amount of people made it hard to go shopping, especially when I only had brought warm clothes. But, I did get my boyfriend some new Converse, myself some goodies from Boots and a new top + hair bow from Black Rose in Camden. I also got a cute cardigan from Collectif. I'll post some photos of this later if I remember!

That's pretty much my London trip for now! I'm sorry about the long blog entry, but I get so excited talking about stuff that really interests me!
